Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

1 Who do I contact if I have a car to offer for sale?

We are always interested in hearing of potential cars for sale, as we have clients interested in acquiring specific cars for restoration. Please direct your inquiry via email to Info@SLfactory.net or call our offices at 201 851.1500

3 Where is the Dominican Republic located, and what is the closest airport and hotels to the plant?

The Dominican Republic is located approximately 3 hours south from the North East (New York) and approximately 2 hours south of Miami, Florida. The closest airport to our plant is the Santo Domingo airport. It is located 25 minutes from our facility in San Pedro de Macoris. There are several hotels within 15 minutes of our location, which we can assist in recommending, if needed.

5 What kind of warranty do you offer on the restoration work?

First, it is important to note that we stand behind our work, and our goal is to always have a satisfied customer. We offer 1 year or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first, on any engine rebuild performed on the car, and three years on the body and paint work performed.

7 What is the typical timeframe for a Frame-off restoration of my car?

This obviously depends a great deal on the project and the car. We currently can perform a W113 (Pagoda) rotisserie level restoration inside 8 months. Please keep in mind we may have 8 to 10 other projects being carried out at the same time.

9 Can I visit the plant while my car is being restored?

We actually encourage it. We believe that a visit can certainly ease any hesitation you may have in sending your car overseas for restoration. We would be more than willing in helping you coordinate accommodations, picking you up at the airport, etc. We are only 3 hours away from NYC, and 2 hours from Miami.

11 What are some of the potential benefits of being in a free zone park?

There are several key benefits of being inside a free zone park. First, the import of vehicles and parts are tax exempt. Second, the export of the finished product is tax exempt from any local taxes. Some of the other benefits are Customs services directly at our plant. When a container arrives from overseas, it is opened at our plant, not at the port. Likewise, as a car is ready for export the vehicle is cleared and sealed in the container at our facility.

13 How is vehicle shipped back home?

The restored vehicle is packed in a ‘closed’ container at our facility and shipped to the end customer destination. For customers in the USA, we typically ship to the port of Newark, where we can provide assistance in the the customs clearance process, and deliver via enclosed carriage to the end destination. Insurance is a requirement that we recommend is taken prior to shipment.

15 Do you use Mercedes original parts?

We make every effort to use New Mercedes original parts where they exist. If Mercedes no longer manufactures the part, we try to find a used OEM part that can be restored as new.

17 Can I have video access to the work being done over the Internet?

The plant is equipped with 32 cameras that record activity throughout the building for security purpose. In addition, we have IP cameras that can be situated in front of the client’s project so that it may be viewed over the internet as the work in being conducted. This type of access must be scheduled ahead of time.

2 Who do I contact for a proposal to restore my car?

You may email or call our offices: Info@SLfactory.net or Info@vintageClassicos.com — or by calling 201 851.1500 in the US, or 973 206.2171 in Dom. Rep.

4 Where do you source your parts?

We source our parts primarily from Mercedes-Benz and several key vendors that service the classic restoration business. Most of our parts are imported directly from the US or Germany.

6 What is your policy for visitors to the plant?

Visitors are not allowed in our plant unless they have been previously cleared to visit. We do not allow walk-in visitors or the casual curious! — Obviously all clients are more than welcome to visit us.

8 Can I manage the procurement and supply of my car’s parts?

We welcome your involvement in this critical aspect of the project. We are willing to work with you with whatever model works best for you. Our newly introduced Customer Garage, helps in keeping you in control of this process.

10 What is the cost of transporting my car from the US to Dominican Republic?

We ship our cars in closed containers that get delivered and opened directly in our plant by customs agents. The average cost of transporting a vehicle in a container from New York or Miami is approximately $1,500 to $2,000 dollars depending on how many cars are being shipped in the container.

12 Is my vehicle secure as it is being restored?

Security is something we take very seriously in order to gain the trust of our clients. We are situated inside a free zone industrial park where security is provided 24X7. Because our facility is inside a free zone park, it is under Customs jurisdiction. As a result, nothing (parts, material, cars, etc.) can be taken out of the industrial park without going through Customs. Additionally our plant has security personal on a 24×7 basis, limiting access to our building.  We complement the physical  security with 32 cameras that monitor and record the inside and outside of our building. These cameras are visible remotely through the internet. Access to our building is prohibited to anyone that has not been previously cleared to visit.

14 How do I receive updates on the work and quality of the work being done?

We have provided a secured access portal on our website “Customer’s Garage” to keep you totally abreast of the progress of your project.  Through this platform, you will receive project status, pictures of the progress of each phase, in addition to financial information regarding orders and other expenses. We also welcome phone calls and emails with specific inquiries. Communications is key to a successful project!

16 Do you restore other cars, other than Mercedes?

Sorry. We do MB classic cars only. We have been approached about doing other cars, but for the moment we feel it is best for the business, and certainly for our customers to remain focused on Mercedes Classics. Our approach is to build efficiency by honing expertise on a particular line of cars, and build a production line. This approach ultimately benefits the customer in our time to deliver and the quality of work produced.
